Okay so I have mostly ever blogged about the happy stuff happening at Cheeky and grateful I am, there is so much. So when I heard a not-so-desirable outcome for a certain award I was really hoping for, like anyone else, I was disheartened to say the least.
Here is how it goes…
Each year BBC Good Food Show producers invite applications from new businesses to award the prestigious bursary awards to 24 outstanding producers. The bursary comes in the form of a stand at one of BBC’s Good Food show venues across UK, and help and support throughout the show. I was confident, we would make it. We applied, were selected for the finals but then as you may have guessed didn’t win the award.
I learnt the news two days ago and needless to say was very disappointed by the outcome as I really believed we stood a great chance. Well one big fat (homemade) burger and 11 hours of sleep later, I did feel much better. Another day in the sun and another 10 hours of sleep later, I feel at the top of my game again.
In a lot of ways I had built up the gist of our blog piece if we had won, but then it occurred to me today, why not write one about our loss. After-all anyone who runs a startup knows it’s not always about winning, a lot of it is also about losing. I want to talk about this as much as I would have talked about had we won! And why not, if I cannot believe and do it, I can never teach my children to lose gracefully.
As a mother, most of my efforts with the business are also towards shaping the impressionable minds of my two daughters. As they grow up and read through these posts about the journey of Cheeky, I would like them to know that their mother didn’t build a business over just success, she built it over sincere effort, some of which led to success and some also to failure. But that after a hearty meal and some good sleep, it is always possible to bounce back – And that is all that matters !!
And here’s to our friends who won –
